Xiaomi Launches Mi Air Purifier 2 at Rs. 10,000

Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 2 has been launched in India today at a starting price of Rs 10,000. With the Mi Air Purifier 2, the Chinese start-up will be entering the home appliance market in India, even though the company is primarily known for its budget smartphones here. The replacement filter for the Mi Air Purifier 2 will cost Rs 2,499 and ideally should be changed within six months.

Xiaomi’s Mi Air Purifier 2 will go on sale in India on September 26, at 12 pm on Mi.com only. This will be followed by a sale on Mi.com and Flipkart.com on October 2 at 12 am. Xiaomi’s Mi Band 2 is also coming to India officially at a price of Rs 1,999. The Mi Band 2 goes on sale on September 27 at 12 pm on Mi.com. The next sale will be September 30 on Amazon India and Mi.com at 12 am.

While Xiaomi has a broader range of products in its home market China which includes water purifiers, air purifiers, laptops, cycles, etc, this will be their first home appliance in India. Xiaomi has not confirmed if products like Mi TV, etc will make their way in the market soon.

For Xiaomi’s there’s a clear reason to bring an Air Purifier to India: The same woeful levels of air pollution as China have made India a big market for these products. Come winter season Delhi turns into smog city. Quite a few companies have launched Air purifiers in the country in the last couple of months, although these are quite expensive and will cost more than Rs 10,000, especially if you want something with a stronger HEPA filter.

Xiaomi’s Mi Air Purifier 2 has a more compact design compared to the earlier version. According to the company, the Mi Air Purifier 2 has a Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) performance of 330 m3 per hour, which is higher than that of rivals in the market.

Xiaomi claims the Mi Air Purifier 2 can remove 99.7 per cent of small particles PM 2.5 (per hour). PM 2.5 are the most dangerous air pollutants linked to various breathing related ailments, including lung cancer and are much smaller than human hair.

The Mi Air Purifier 2 has a HEPA filter, activated carbon filter as well. The device has a Wi-Fi module 802.11b/g/n (2.4Ghz band), and can be synced with your device. Users can rely on the Mi Home app to monitor the data from the Mi Air Purifier 2. Dimensions for the device are 240 x 240 x 520 mm and it has a noise level of 31dB.

Xiaomi’s Mi Band 2 is also coming to India. The Mi Band 2 has an OLED display, and can tracks steps and sleep for a user. The company claims it has a 20-day battery life with moderate usage.
