Mahindra & Mahindra has reportedly started working on a new autonomous car. With this new project Mahindra joins the already increasing list of global marquee working on similar projects like Google, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Tesla. The new self-driving car will most likely be built in the lines of Mahindra’s electric car subsidiary Mahindra Reva. A senior executive of the company has revealed that Mahindra Reva has already submitted proof of concepts for driverless cars in the UK and Singapore. He said that, "We have already begun experiments in our R&D facility in Bengaluru. Once we get approvals from the respective governments, we'll start testing these cars on road."

Mahindra plans to test the prototypes in UK and Singapore. The executive said, “Indian roads are too crowded to test driverless cars at the moment. Currently, our focus is on the US, Europe and South-East Asian markets. Once these experiments are successful, we might start road tests in India as well.”

Now auto manufacturers are focusing more on catering to the comfort and safety needs of the buyers. Maruti Suzuki has created a revolution by introducing AMT technology in affordable cars. After comfort and advance safety additions like auto transmission, cruise control, standardization of ABS and air bags, the next in line is autonomous technology.
