Whatsapp tops chat app

Whatsapp has emerged the top among apps used by Indians, as the app is virtually used by every second mobile phone user in 2013. According to a recent survey on use of smartphone in India by Informate Mobile Intelligence, almost 76 percent of smart phone users prefer Whatsapp for texting.

Other popular apps among smartphone users are Gmail, Google Search, Google Play, Googlemaps, Google hangouts and Youtube, the study revealed. Inspite of chat apps like WeChat, Line, BB messenger seen in 2013, Whatsapp leads among apps.

According to a telecom analyst, the chat apps have undermined usage of text messaging via SMS, whose usage has come down for the first time since 2012. Smartphone users in India are high on instant messaging available in smartphones. Study reveals that three out of every four users are addicted to chatting on their mobile making chat apps a lucrative one for companies.
