IRCTC to improve online booking speeds

There wouldn't have been many of those glorious moments where you have booked your rail tickets in one go! But those moments are bound to disappear with this new changes employed onto the website. If not for good, you would have fewer encounters with failed attempts on the website.

IRCTC has launched plans for greatly improving the website to handle better traffic. This will enable the site to book more than 7200 per minute. Currently, the ticketing site of the IRCTC is able to handle about 1.2 lakh concurrent connections on web servers and can book about 2000 tickets per minute.

Nothing grand comes without a similar price tag. This change would cost the railways with a hefty tag of about Rs 100 crore.

A power point presentation was made before the Railway Minister about the plan to strengthen the website to enable it for booking 7200 tickets per minute, said a senior Railway Ministry official.

Tendering process for upgrading of software and strengthening of hardware is on as per the Rail Budget announcement, said the official.
