Google's only female engineer decides to lead Yahoo Inc instead

Starting today, Yahoo Inc's new chief executive is none other than the Google Inc's Marissa Meyer. She would be the fifth CEO for Yahoo in 5 years and also surprisingly the third for this year already.

Acting CEO Ross Levnson was released from his extra duties after Meyer was hired and this could be signalling the intent of Yahoo to change its focus onto Web technology and other products rather than working on the online content.

The shares in Yahoo have gained 2% after it increased to $15.97 in the trading after-hours.

Marc Andreessen at the Fortune industry conference that was held in Aspen, Colorado said that this was a statement from Yahoo, choosing a CEO who is product oriented. He also opined that this could be a large commitment by choosing such a strategy.

He quoted the example of Apple Inc reminding that CEO's had the capacity to steer the company completely around. He reminded everyone how Steve Jobs had played a major role saving Apple Inc from the brink of bankruptcy to the acme. He emphasized that Meyer's job was a huge responsibility.

On Monday, she tweeted that she was “incredibly excited” to step up as the CEO of the company. Meyer, one among the earliest employees at Google and also the first female engineer at the organization, would begin rendering her services to Yahoo on Tuesday.
