70 fake websites seized

As many as 70 websites were seized by the United States authorities for allegedly selling counterfeit goods online. The officials told the media that these websites used the luxury brand names such as Louis Vuitton, NFL, MLB and Burberry. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director John Morton told the media that latest seizures were, in fact, included sophisticated operations such as designing fake webpages of the companies and diverting the people for making money illegally by selling counterfeit goods.

He has also said that the websites were called as copy cat sites. The technical experts said that this is one kind of phishing wherein fake websites would be created. In fact, in the present case, the goods were not sold for any cheap prices too. The customers paid full price for the fake products believing that the item they purchased were genuine.

ICE spokesperson, Justin Cole has said that they began seizing fake websites since 2010 and within a short span of two years, at least 839 websites were seized.
