Leader of Opposition and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has been granted regular bail in the Skill Development Corporation case by the Andhra Pradesh High Court. Previously, on medical grounds, Naidu was given interim bail for a period of four weeks and is currently undergoing treatment in Hyderabad. The arrest of Naidu, aged 73, took place on September 9 by the Andhra Pradesh CID, as he was allegedly involved in a scam in the AP Skill Development Corporation during his tenure as the head of the Telugu Desam Party from 2014 to 2019. The CID has accused Naidu of being the main culprit in a case that pertains to the transfer of Rs 371 crore of government funds to shell companies.

The FIR in this matter was officially filed on December 9, 2021. Naidu was apprehended while on a tour of Nandyal, and subsequently transported to Vijayawada for interrogation. Following this, he was placed in judicial custody by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) court in Vijayawada and incarcerated in Rajamahendravaram Central Jail.

During the grant of interim bail, the court instructed him to arrange for medical treatment and undergo cataract surgery for his right eye, as well as undergo a comprehensive medical examination as recommended by a team of government and private doctors. Additionally, he was required to surrender himself on November 28. However, with the regular bail being granted by the high court, he is no longer obligated to appear before the authorities on November 28. The restrictions on engaging in political activities, such as delivering speeches, will remain effective until November 28. Starting from November 29, he will be able to actively take part in political endeavors.
