Kancha Ilaiah Placed Under House Arrest In Hyderabad:- Noted dalit writer and social activist, Kancha Ilaiah has been placed under house arrest by the police here in Hyderabad on Saturday. The arrest of Ilaiah comes in wake, to stop him from leaving for Vijayawada to address a public meeting.

The policemen were deployed outside his house in Tarnaka. Ilaiah will be arrested, if he steps out of the house, conveyed a police team from Andhra Pradesh to him. A huge number of Ilaiah’s supporters gathered outside his residence. One of the supporters said that they were determined to leave for Vijayawada.

notice was served to the Dalit thinker by the AP police. They informed him that as prohibitory orders were in force in the city, there is no permission for the public meeting in Vijayawada. To express solidarity with Ilaiah, some Dalit and backward classes organizations had planned to organize. Ilaiah had facing threats from various groups from Arya Vysya community.

On Friday, the Hyderabad High Court had refused to give directions to Andhra Pradesh Police not to grant permission to Ilaiah to conduct a meeting in Vijayawada. A petition filed by Arya Vysya Sangham, was being heard by the court. If Ilaiah was allowed to visit Vijayawada and hold the meeting, severe consequences would take place, threatened the Arya Vysya-Brahmana Aikya Vedika or the joint committee of Arya Vysya and Brahmin communities. A meeting was also planned to be organized by the joint committee, but after police imposed orders banning meetings and rallies in the city, it dropped its plans.

The governments of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were trying to suppress freedom of expression, alleged Ilaiah.

For describing the trading community as social smugglers in his Telugu book “Samaajika smugglurlu komatollu, the writer has been facing protests from the Arya Vysya groups. A ban on the book and the arrest of the writer is being sought by the Arya Vysya communities, for hurting their sentiments.

On October 15, the Supreme Court, refused to ban the book.
