Praja Rajyam president K. Chiranjeevi said that he had spurned the BJP's offer for a tie-up with his party in the initial days, following which the BJP planned to rope in Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy to join hands with it.

Speaking at road shows in Kamalapuram and Pulivendula Assembly segments on Friday, Mr. Chiranjeevi accused Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy of making the minorities scapegoats to further his political interests.

He said the YSR Congress had sent a delegation of 22 MLAs to him seeking his support to become Chief Minister soon after the former Chief Minister death , but he did not accept the proposal. He accused Mr. Jaganmohan of trying to destabilise the government. Brushing aside Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy's claims that the contest was between Kadapa and Delhi, Mr. Chiranjeevi said the election was between Sonia Gandhi's sacrifice and Jaganmohan Reddy's betrayal (of the Congress). He maintained that he accepted Ms. Gandhi's offer of merger as the Congress was pro-poor and would ensure social justice.

Mr. Chiranjeevi along with his brother Nagendra Babu, Congress candidate for Kadapa D.L. Ravindra Reddy, Pulivendula candidate Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy and Housing Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana offered prayers at Sri Prasanna Anjaneya Swamy temple at Gandi in Chakrayapet mandal.

The Praja Rajyam president addressed gatherings at Chintakommadinne and Nandimandalam in Kamalapuram segment and at Chakrayapet, Nagulaguttapalle, B.T. Palle and Vempalle in Pulivendula constituency in his road show. People showered petals at him and cheered.

Eggs hurled

Unknown persons hurled eggs at Mr. Chiranjeevi's convoy near the RTC bus stand in Pulivendula on Friday night, the first day of his five-day road show in Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency.

Congress and YSR Congress activists jostled with each other after the incident. Police resorted to a mild lathicharge and brought the situation under control.
