Apart from Sasikala, another convict in the multi-crore stamp paper scam kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi was also availing special privileges. The prison officials admitted that the special treatment was received special treatment. On Friday, the officials appeared before the committee. The sleuths said that Sasikala had a passage and five rooms entirely for herself.

Mr R. Ashok who is reviewing prison reforms in the state is the Chairman of the committee. He is a former Minister and Senior BJP leaders.

The irregularities came to the front, when former DIG (Prisons) D. Roopa Moudgil submitted a report last week to the Home Secretary and other four departments. She accused former DIG and IGP (Prisons) H.N. Satyanarayana Rao that to extend special privileges to Ms Sasikala, Mr Rao had received received Rs 2 crore as kickback.

Following the accusations, the state government had ordered a high-level inquiry under Vinay Kumar, a retired IAS officer.

However, the PAC asked both ADGP (Prisons) N.S. Megharikh and DIG (Prisons) H.S. Revanna, to submit a detailed report. Megharikh and Revanna have replaced Mr. Rao and Ms Moudgil.

A committee member told a leading daily that, “So far, the allegation regarding special treatment meted out to Sasikala and Telgi, as mentioned in the report submitted by Roopa turns out to be true. Our committee has directed the senior officials to identify those jail officials who are involved in the irregularities.”

Meanwhile, the preliminary inquiry report to the government is expected to be submitted to the Government in a day or two.
