Pathankot: No confirmation about Jaish Chief detention

Though it was in the news that, Maulana Masood Azhar, the chief of the Jaish-e-Mohammed was detained, India has no confirmation of the same, as of yet. It is known that, Maulana Masood Azhar is the key person behind launching a deadly attack at Pathankot Air Force base.

Here are the 10 developments in Pathankot deadly terror attack issue.

1. Pakistan media yesterday reported that, two days ago, Azhar and his close relatives had been taken into protective custody.

2. However, Vikas Swarup, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson said, “We have not received official word on detention of Masood Azhar.” Even, Pakistan minister, Mohammad Zubair said he could not confirm the detention either.

3. From the government sources, it was known that, it is highly unlikely that, India will proceed with talks loosely set for tomorrow, between the foreign secretaries of India and Pakistan. After National Security Adviser, Ajit Doval returns from Paris, an appropriate decision will be taken.

4. But India had already suggested that, Pakistan must take action against those, who planned and executed the attack at Pathankot and only then, the talks between the two countries should take place.

5. Last week, on the phone, Prime Minster Narendra Modi told Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that, swift and decisive action is expected. Even Sharif assured his assistance on the investigation.

6. Sharif statement said, “Several individuals belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammad, have been apprehended. The offices of the organization are also being traced and sealed.”

7. When asked about the details of a few phone numbers called by the terrorists from Pathankot, Pakistan has rejected to provide evidence, conveying that, those phone numbers are not registered in their country.

8. Pakistan even said that, it wishes to send a team of officials to India to support in the investigation, but the Centre did not give any approval, as of now.

9. After one week of PM Modi’s surprise visit to Pakistan, with an intention of improving the bi-lateral relation, Pathankot air force station was attacked.

10. In 1994, Jaish chief Azhar was arrested in Kashmir, but was released in 1999, along with two other Pakistani terrorists, in return for 155 passengers held hostage in an Indian Airlines aircraft that was hijacked to Kandahar in Afghanistan.
