Akkineni Amala arrested

Noted film starlet of south tinsel world was arrested by the cops in Hyderabad. The actress who had starred in many films including the one with Superstar Rajnikanth in Velaikaran in Tamil and with Megastar Chiranjeevi in Raja Vikramarka in Telugu, had been arrested by the Police, today. The Animal Welfare activist was arrested along with nine others and some Green Peace Activists. They were staging a protest at the historical Charminar. The group of activists were demanding halting of new coal mining projects in forest areas.

A senior police official said that the actress and the group were arrested under section 151 CrPC (arrest to prevent commission of cognisable offence) by the Charminar Police and later released on personal bonds. As the COP 11 conference was underway in the city, the activists led by the actor staged a banner protest which read as,

'Stop Coal Crimes.........
...Save Indian Forests.'


The animal activist said, 'Coal mining is destroying the huge biodiversity in India besides homes of tribal communities and threatening natural habitat of Indian Tiger and that is why I am protesting today along with those who signed Greenpeace India's petition demanding the government to stop destroying our forests.'

The actress after a two decade hiatus from the screen, came back for a second innings with the Shekar Kammula film, 'Life is Beautiful.' She had settled as a home maker after marrying lead Telugu actor Akkineni Nagarjuna, in 1992. Before her illustrious wed life the actor acted in almost fifty films in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. She is also the convenor for the Blue Cross, caring the animals, for the Hyderabad Division. (With inputs from internet-AW AarKay)
