Court in AP awards capital punishment to Ex-CRPF jawan

In a sensational verdict, a district court in Srikakulam has awarded capital punishment to an ex-CRPF jawan, Shankar Rao for allegedly murdering his wife, two children and relatives.

It may be recalled that the incident occurred at Shankar Rao’s residence in Srikakulam in December 2010. The convict mercilessly killed his wife with a sword and later started attacking the neighbours, relatives and others who witnessed the murder. Shankar Rao used swords, sickles and also country made crude bombs to eliminate the witnesses. He had not even spared his two children. The villagers had said that had spend a sleepless night as Shankar Rao was busy throwing bombs that night. By the time police arrived, Shankar Rao fled from the scene. The police registered the case and nabbed the convict after they launched a man hunt. Shankar Rao was immediately terminated from CRPF.

The court, after hearing the arguments, has declared that Shankar Rao be hanged till death. The date of execution is yet to be known.

The Shankar Rao’s massacre episode has sent shock waves among the public and the villagers apparently cannot forget that incident till today. (Phani)
