Nitish Kumar supports Telangana demand

In a clear support to the creation of Telangana state, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced he was in favour of creating smaller states for administrative purposes in the country.

Addressing a media conference in Patna, Nitish Kumar defended the proposal of UP chief minister Mayawathi to divide the state into four states. “Maya has proposed to divide UP into four states and already there is a demand for creation of Telangana state,” he said, adding that these demands should be allowed by the Centre for the comfort of administration.

However, he said the division of UP is a problem between the state chief minister and the Centre and they should attend to it. Nitish Kumar said that the population of UP was two and a half times more than that of Bihar in 2000 when the Jharkhand was formed out of Bihar. “Even now also, UP population is double to that of Bihar and Maya’s proposal is reasonable,” he said.

Nitish also talked about the demands for division of Maharashtra and asked the Centre to solve the problems as soon as possible.
