Dubai flight makes emergency landing, develops technical snag

Emirates-A380

The world's largest airplane, the Airbus A-380, of the Emirates Airways flying from Bangkok to Dubai made an emergency landing at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Sunday due to a technical snag. The Emirates Airlines EK385 flight was carrying 481 passengers on board.

According to an airline spokesperson, the A380 Emirates EK-385 flight from Bangkok landed safely at the Hyderabad International Airport at 3.40 a.m. on Sunday. "All the passengers, mostly foreign nationals, were de-boarded immediately from the aircraft and have been provided accommodation at the airport," the spokesperson said. This was the third time in three years that RGIA successfully handled an A-380, the official said. Reports said the pilot of the aircraft first approached the Chennai Airport and when he didn't get clearance for landing there, he contacted ATC here and asked permission to land which was later given.

The Emirates was making arrangements to accommodate the passengers on its Hyderabad-Dubai flights, including a special flight. An official said that out of 481 passengers, 80 left for Dubai by regular Emirates flight EK527 Hyderabad-Dubai at 10.20 a.m. Some passengers will be sent by a special flight at 11.20 a.m. and the remaining by the regular Hyderabad-Dubai flight in the evening. Airbus engineers from the company's headquarters in Toulouse, France, are rushing to Hyderabad to attend to the technical snag.
