Sonia has cervical cancer, say reports

sonia1Though congress party leader Janardhan Dwivedi refused to give more details of the medical problem of the party president Sonia Gandhi who underwent a surgery in the US on Thursday, unconfirmed reports said Sonia was operated upon for cervical cancer at the Queens Hospital of the Sloan Kettering Cancer Memorial Centre in New York.

The operation was reportedly performed by a group of specialists headed by Dr. Nori Datthathreyudu, director of the hospital who belonged to Andhra Pradesh. Dr. Nori, who had his medical degree from the Kurnool medical college, is a world famous specialist for cancer treatment.  

Reports said that Sonia had visited the hospital several times in recent weeks but the purpose of her visits was kept a secret by the party leaders. Sonia Gandhi has also been a patient of chronic asthma.

Dwivedi announced first on Thursday that Sonia underwent a surgery and she was recovering satisfactorily after the operation. Again, a few hours later, he announced that she would be operated in a day or two. He never gave the details of the surgery or when she left for the US from Delhi.

Finally, he told news persons in Delhi this morning that she underwent the operation and was revering fast. “She needs rest for three to four weeks,” he said. He didn’t specify the surgery details again.
