KaviathaRajaiaIn a major crackdown, police today arrested top leaders of Telangana political JAC and TRS before and after the 3-day rail blockade began this morning across Telangana amid tensions.

Following the arrests, majority of the trains were run as per schedule in most of the places in Telangana and authorities are trying to restore some of the train services cancelled for the occasion.

Police announced they have registered cases under various sections of Railways Act against Ms. Kavitha, Telangana Jagruti President and daughter of TRS chief KCR, Congress MP Mr Rajaiah and several others for trespassing into railway properties and causing obstruction to the moment of trains.

Earlier, police have arrested them at parts of Hyderabad city and elsewhere.  Most of the key leaders of the Telangana movement were taken into custody as a preventive measure and taken to various police stations.

The crackdown on the activists began so early in the morning hours as hundreds of T activists led by their leaders began reaching the railway tracks at various locations and resorted to sit-in on the tracks.

The arrested leaders and activists included those of the TRS, TDP and Congress parties. Several congress and TDP leaders including MLAs and MPs of the Telangana region also participated in the rail roko agitation.

T Congress leaders defied an appeal of the PCC chief Mr Botsa Satyanarayana not to participate in the agitation. In several T areas, congress leaders led the agitation.

At some places in Telangana districts, anti-social elements removed fish plates on the railway tracks and police arrested some persons in this connection.
