KCR launches Chandi Yagam in low-key

kcr-on-yagnamThe much talked about Maha Chandi Yagam by the TRS president K. Chandrasekhara rao, aimed at appeasing the Gods to ensure Telangana state formation, began as a low-profile affair on Thursday at a farm house on the outskirts of Hyderabad with only a few people attending it.

Eminent Vedic scholar Damodar Sharma, aided by 64 Vedic pundits of Telangana region, took 40 minutes to generate fire from the two wooden pieces that were used for ceremonial ‘Agnimadhanam’ (generation of fire).

The formalities started with a Puja by KCR and his wife Shobha and interestingly, KCR’s son, K T Rama Rao, daughter Kavitha and party leaders were not seen at the yagam. The yagam was a contrast to the earlier ones performed by KCR who ensured presence of large number of party leaders.

Even party MP Vijaya Santi was not present at the present Yagam. A senior TRS leader said KCR had directed all leaders to concentrate on ‘Telangana Udyama Dashabdi’ programme launched by the party on Thursday across Telangana districts. “For this reason, it has turned into KCR’s private programme,” he said.

KCR later told media persons he was confident of the blessings of Gods for the people of Telangana. This would be the last yagam for Telangana, he said, adding that he will perform ‘Sahasra Chandi Yagam’ for the development of Telangana state after its formation.
