Police suspended for shirking duties

In the recent visit of the Khagaria, Bihar, chief minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar had to face a humiliation in the protest of the people against him. The police had been blamed for their dereliction of duties which had helped the violent protests of the people to attack Nitish Kumar.

The Police of Bihar however said that the suspension orders were given not due to the incidents and arson at Khagaria on Thursday. However, it is very clear from facts that there were seven police who were stationed at the site but they were absent from duty at the time of protest, which could have been averted if the police had been there.
. Hundreds of protesters, comprising contractual teachers, had perpetrated large-scale violence and even pelted stones on the Chief Minister's convoy who was in the town as part of his 'Adhikar Yatra' to mobilise support for his demand for special status to the state.

The violence had turned uncontrollable in very short time making it harder for the police to act efficiently. Stones were hurled at dozens of officials, including the Director General of Police (DGP) Abhayanand. A few vehicles were also set ablaze.
The Bihar government has already constituted a Special Investigation Team to probe the violence. The police have arrested 42 people so far in connection with the incident. They have also lodged First Information Reports (FIRs) against 673 protesters, including 600 unidentified ones for their alleged involvement in the violence.
