Humanitarian move by Punjab National Bank

India's largest nationalized bank, in terms of business and the second largest otherwise has not merely tried to do business with the clients and customers but also do what they were originally intend for; use the money for the benefit of their customers. PNB, the leading public sector bank, has made a noble move while adopting one whole village in Odisha for the sake of lepers and helping the victims by providing them food for free everyday. The move is more humanitarian than anything else considering that the victims of Leprosy are ostracized socially and cursed even today for being associated with the disease.

"In some cases, their own children abandon them, forcing them to resort to begging to make ends meet. Our initiative is a small step towards fighting the social evil", S K Dokania, the head of the PNB Odisha circle said.

Interacting with the beneficiaries at a Loan Mela held by the bank here, Dokania said the bank was the custodian of public money and it was imperative on its part to ensure security of the money as well benefit of the customers.

The bank has a unique Mediclaim insurance policy for Rs. five lakh available only for its account holders and their three dependents in association with Oriental Insurance Co Ltd with IRDA guidelines. Dokania said that this policy was the cheapest and hence unique mediclaim that was available in the country now which is applicable to the account holder and three dependants up to 80 years of age.

Sound-proof generators were also installed by the banks to ensure that they do not add to the sound pollution, as an environmental measure.
