Kasab accepts SC decision with a smile

Ajmal Kasab had been the only survivor of the 10 terrorists who had created mayhem in Mumbai on 26/11 after they had mercilessly sprayed bullets as they openfired and killed 166 people while injuring several others. He had been lodged, rather luxuriously, in a special jail that was built on Arthur Road for four years. He was recently sentenced to death by the Supreme Court but there was no certified copy of the sentence to announce the news to Kasab until Saturday.

After he was told of the Supreme Court's order on Saturday, Kasab merely smiled and collected the copy of the certified order from Supreme Court.

Sources in the jail reported that they had not received the certified copy until a few days ago. "We had not informed him about it as we did not have a copy of the order. Once we received it a few days ago, Kasab was informed about the order," said a jail official.

Kasab was unusually silent however after the news though. He had not mentioned if he would seek a mercy petition from the President of India. Should he seek a mercy from the President, he would have to approach the government through his lawyer.
