High Court Judge makes sexist remarks

A high court Judge of Karnataka had drawn the criticism of the women groups of the state after he made a controversial verdict asking a woman to adjust with the harassment of the husband to keep up the family for the sake of marriage and the life of kids.

The judge was earlier hearing a domestic violence case when he had made the verdict. Talking to the plaintiff who sought divorce for a marriage blaming the husband for physical abuse, he said that she should adjust a little with the husband to keep the marriage intact for the sake of her kids, who would need a father and most importantly a family.

Women groups however, dug at the Judge taking the wrong side of the case and interpreted the judgment that she should just "adjust" to the cruelty being meted out to her for the sake of her marriage and her children.

They have also launched a campaign online seeking his ousting from the position. A memorandum was also submitted by female lawyers to the Chief Justice asking that all judges be given certain guidelines on how to deal with sensitive cases involving women and children.

"I somehow feel domestic court cases and family court cases must be posted before a judge who has been trained specially for that particular purpose and who can understand the feelings of a lady," Advocate Pramila Nesargi said.

What do you think would be right? A verdict that had allowed the divorce and jeopardized the lives of the kids or the wife and the husband sorting out the issues to keep the marriage intact?
