CAG refuses to join political debate

The Comptroller and Auditor General of India, the government's own auditor, had refused to join a political debate on the CAG's report on the coal blocks allocation issue. The CAG himself announced the statement officially.

The statement made and released on Tuesday by the auditing body said that due to his powers as a constitutional authority, C&AG Vinod Raj, felt that it would be inappropriate to joing a public debate on the coal block allocation issue.

The statement added that the CAG would step in to clarify any discrepancies on the report whenever appropriate.

It had also revealed that the CAG office had been receiving several calls from the media people for the reactions on the new developments after the report had been submitted on the coal block allocations and the increase of the coal production which was presented on August 17.

The Prime Minister on the other hand had called the CAG finding and the report on the allocation of coal blocks "disputable and flawed".
The 32-point rejection of the CAG findings on the issue by the PM, he said that the observations of the CAG were clearly disputable.
