Sushilkumar Shinde slams at Jaya Bachchan, apologizes

Home minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Thursday had in a fit of rage dug out at Jaya Bachchan making remarks against her and had to apologize later after his comments sparked out an outcry from other members in the Rajya Sabha.

In a short duration debate, Shinde was addressing the Assam violence issue while erstwhile actress and SP member Jayabachchan had expressed her discontentment over the minister as he stayed mum parrying the questions of members related to the issue.

He snarled at her saying that is was a serious issue and not the subject of a film when she had interrupted her.

Obviously hurt, Jaya made a serious objection of the sarcastic and acerbic comment and was soon joined by number of other members sparking an outcry in the Upper House.

Arun Jaitley the leader of the opposition said that Jaya Bachchan was a distinguished celebrity and a Rajya Sabha member. He added that even as the Home Minister of India Shinde has no right to twit her. The House would proceed only after Shinde made amends and retracted his statement.

Initially Shinde didn't succumb to the pressure and had argued that Jaya Bachchan was not right in interrupting him, the home minister while he was talking. Jaitley then asked Tariq Anwar, who was in the Chair, to delete Shinde's remarks if he was unwilling to withdraw his remarks.

Shinde had only then apologized for making such comment and that she treated her as a sister. He also said that he personally knew the Bachchan family and also had great respect for them.
He could not finish his discourse properly with jeering from the members of opposition who were unanswered after asking a few questions.

Balbir Punj of BJP has said that he was like a student who memorised lessons a day before and repeated them the next day pointing out at his mistake that he had repeated from Lok Sabha yesterday. Few members also were shouting and catcalling asking for Shinde to be sent back to his home state.
