In a rare case a women from Zambia was sentenced to30 years of imprisonment after she was found in the possession of drugs and attempting to smuggle them outside India by the special Narcotics Drugs Psychotropic Substances court on Monday.
The 28 year old woman was convicted by M Y Mankar on two seperate counts. 15 years of Rigorous imprisonment for possession of the drug and another 15 years for trying to smuggle it. Both the sentences would run consecutively apart from which she should also pay a fine of Rs 2 lakhs.
Tambo was arrested in the December of 2008 while she was leaving for South Africa from Mumbai. The Air Intelligence Unit had found her concealing drugs in capsules which were hidden amongst her clothes.
