Three arrested for murdering a mentally ill woman

The corpse of a mentally ill woman was unearthed from the backyard of a mental asylum in Dhaniakhali in Hooghly District, West Bengal. Three suspects who allegedly murdered the woman were arrested said the police on Thursday.

“We have arrested three people on Wednesday, who were linked to the murder of Gudiya. We are interrogating the three of them”, said AK singh who was the officer in charge of the Gurap Police station.

The 32 year old was allegedly raped and killed. Police suspect that there could be more people involved but it would be revealed only after investigating the 3 convicts. The corpse was sent to Chinsurah for a post mortem after being exhumed. But since the body was decomposed to a degree that a postmortem would not be helpful, it was sent to SSKM hospital for autopsy, the officer revealed.

West Bengal Women & Child Development and Social Welfare Minister Sabitri Mitra has requested that a deep investigation be done.

Several other inmates in the asylum also complained that Shyamal Ghosh who was the prime accused in the case resorted to measures that would torture them. They also complained that he badly beat up Gudiya a few days before she disappeared.
