Pinki granted bail by court

Pinki Pramanik, a female athlete accused of rape and subjected to gender tests recently, was granted bail by an Indian court. After being arrested in West Bengal in June after a complaint agaisnt her was lodged by her live in partner.

Pramanik, the winner of several medals for India, had denied all the charges she was accused of. Human rights group also provided support to her and protested against the mistreatment as he was escorted by male police. She was also forced to undergo gender tests. She had been put to great shame after nude videos of her undergoing the tests were publicized online illegally.

Tuhin Roy, Pramanik's Lawyer said that a bail was granted by the distrct judge at Rs 5000. Pinki would be released tomorrow after all the legal paper work would be completed.

The representatives fromthe State women's commission met Pinki on Tuesday. Sunanda Mukherjee said “There clearly was complete violation of her human rights. She was referred to as a male and also harassed by policemen. She was crying her hearts out when we talked to her.”
