Indian plane lands in Pakistan,  on emergency

As per reports an Air India flight which was returning back to New Delhi from Abu Dhabi made an emergency landing in Pakistan. Sources confirm that the 122 passengers of the flight are safe and the government carrier is sending a special flight to bring them  back home. All of them have been evacuated. The pilot who noticed a technical snag made an  emergency landing at about 3:37 am in Nawabshah in Sindh.

The captain of the Airbus aircraft contacted Pakistani civil aviation authorities and sought permission for an emergency landing after detecting the problem, Pakistan civil aviation authority spokesman Pervez George said.

An Air India spokesman in the capital said, "The aircraft was flying over Pakistan air space when the pilot saw a warning light in the cockpit and sought permission to land at the nearest airport which was Nawabshah."

After the flight grounded at the airport the string of events that unfolded are presented here for reader enrichment. The Pakistani airport authorities were very obliging and even offered refreshments to the passengers and asked them to use their lounge. However the Indian pilot kept the passengers in the flight. The Indian high commission in Islamabad was constantly in touch with the pilot. The passengers will be airlifted in the afternoon to India.

As per technical experts the flight developed a snag in the hydraulic systems and eventually all three hydraulic systems failed. Subsequently under very rare circumstances all the backup systems too, succombed. Nearly eight specialist engineers are being flown to Pakistan. Air India is to submit a detailed report to the Prime Minister on the incident based on the experts opinion. (With inputs from internet- AW AarKay)
