Partial roll back?

Owing to the demands and criticism from the opposition and the public, the Congress party has asked the oil companies in the countries to roll back the petrol prices. The oil companies, who didn’t give any assurance, have nonetheless said that the decision on roll back of steep hike in petrol prices would be controlled by the rupee value in the international market. They hinted that they would roll back the prices by month end if the rupees remains stagnant in the international market.

India Oil Chairman R S Butola has said that the current trends indicated that the petroleum prices would dip. The Congress party spokesperson Manish Tiwari said on Thursday that the Congress was sensitive to the burden caused to common people due to steep hike in petro prices. He remained positive stating that there would be some relief to the problem.

Notably, the current steep hike not only irked the oppositions and common people, but also the allies of the UPA such as Trinamul Congress. So, Congress party instead of defending the hike, appealed the oil companies publicly for rolling back the prices.  (Phani)
