122 Civil Servants face Corruption charges: Minister

CBI has registered 110 cases against 122 officers of the rank of Joint Secretary and above.  Certain accused officers are common in more than one case.  The allegations against these officers mainly relate to criminal misconduct or disproportionate assets or criminal conspiracy or trap cases, etc.

Minister of State of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pension and Prime Minister Office V. Narayanasamy said in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday that as per information provided by the CBI, during the last five years, i.e. 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 (upto 31.3.2012), it has registered 110 cases against 122 officers of the rank of Joint Secretary and above.  Certain accused officers are common in more than one case.  The allegations against these officers mainly relate to criminal misconduct or disproportionate assets or criminal conspiracy or trap cases, etc. 

The following steps have been taken by the Central Government to strengthen the legislative framework against corruption:-Enactment of Right to Information Act, 2005; Issue of Whistle Blowers Resolution, 2004 and introduction of the Public Interest Disclosure and Protection to Persons Making the Disclosure Bill, 2010 in the Lok Sabha on 26th August, 2010. (Passed by the Lok Sabha on 27th December, 2011 as the Whistle Blowers Protection Bill, 2011); Introduction of the Lokpal & Lokayuktas Bill, 2011 in the Parliament; Introduction of the Prevention of Bribery of Foreign Public Officials and Officials of Public International Organizations Bills, 2011 in the Lok Sabha;  Introduction of the Judicial Standards and Accountability Bill, 2010 in the Parliament (passed by the Lok Sabha on 29.3.2012);  Introduction of the Right of Citizens for Time Bound Delivery of Goods and Services and Redressal of their Grievances Bill, 2011 in the Lok Sabha on 20.12.2011.
