Defense `whistle blower’ unleashes another letter, wants CBI to act

The headlines of most national dailies this week have been carrying the Genl V K Singh’s pics with as much controversy stories possible….

A recent report in NDTV, which had source elsewhere, gave us today’s dosage of the developments. General V K Singh who is in limelight for his controversial letter exposing the weakness of our defenses has sent another letter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), requesting a probe. Another letter at this juncture turns to be more vital but hazardous to the security setup when viewed by the exterior world. As per the letter another letter sent to the general in May 2011, by Trinamool MP Ambica Banerjee was also enclosed. The forwarded letter of the MP states asks the General to probe Lieutenant General Dalbir Singh Suhag.

The Trinamool MP has made a series of allegations of a procurement scam, alleging payoffs for the purchase of night-vision devices, communication systems, weapons as well as parachutes, according to the Indian Express report. The MP has also named Army officers, including a former Army Chief, who he alleged received Cr in kickbacks for defense procurements and amassed huge disproportionate assets.

The Trinamool MP had sent a similar letter to Defence Minister AK Antony who had promised to look into the allegations but, according to the MP, he has not heard anything further from Mr Antony. Sources in the CBI have confirmed that Ambica Banerjee's letter has been forwarded to the agency. The man in question Lt General Dalbir Singh is second in line to be the Army chief after Lieutenant General Bikram Singh is worth noting.

It may be noted that earlier General V K Singh had sent a letter to the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh about the weak defense equipment and anomalies in the department. The act was condemned by the Defense Ministry as a scheme to embarrass it. A series of leaders from Opposition parties, including Lalu Prasad Yadav, said the Army chief should be removed for breaching confidentiality and compromising institutional integrity.

On the contrary none are talking about the facts. Are we really equipped to face the challenges posed by our (un) friendly neighbors. Our neighbors are growing stronger and are forming a unison and might try a coup at any given point, are we really as tough as we speak for an encounter? This is one question lingering in the minds of the common man, who simply asks…… Are    we     safe!!!!!!!!!!!  (With inputs from internet- AarKay)
