DAM 999: Director nostalgic over Oscar short listing and about the ban

The Director of the much controversial film DAM 999 which faced the same fate at the hands of both the governments of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, felt bad over the issue.  Though overwhelmed over short listing of the film, for Oscars and three songs also selected, was a bit nostalgic about the ban faced. In fact many critics felt that the movie is depicted on the controversial Mullai Periyar Dam.

Incidentally this was the first directorial debut for Sohan Roy. He said `I am excited and happy about the recognition accorded to my debut film and its songs by Oscar Academy. This is a matter of national pride. But at the same time, I am saddened by the feeling that this honor is not being shared by the nation as a whole. Some people, for whom the movie was made, are deprived of the opportunity to view it.’

The agonized director added, ''I wish it comes true. But right now, I am even inclined to think of removing my movie from all theatres in India, since it is not allowed to play in one state. This is not as a protest, but as an expression of disgust over being disowned by my own people. I made this movie for the people of my great India, with the true belief of upholding the spirit of our nation
