Silver medalist Vijay Kumar promoted to Subedar Major rank

Vijay Kumar says that finally justice had been done to him after he received a prize money of Rs 30 Lakh and promotion to Subedar Major rank. The Silver Medalist at the London Olympics Vijay Kumar was felicitated with the title Subedar Major by the Army Chief Gen Bikram Singh on Thursday.

He said that he was capable of being a commissioned officer as he could speak in English and is very educated too. He promised that the army would help him in all possible ways but promotion to a commissioned rank would require an approval from the President's and several rules should be followed.

Gen Bikram Singh spoke to the reporters in a function where to facilitate 14 Army personnel who had performed in the Olympics earlier.

The ace shooter winning the first silver for India in the London Olympics 2012 had received two promotions as per the existing norms.

Vijay said that he had been waiting for his rewards since four years and finally he had been served with justice after the promotions and the prize money.

On the allegation that Army personnel produced fake certificates of participation in national games for promotion,Responding to the allegations that the Army had submitted fake certificates for the participation in National Games, to get promoted, Gen Singh said that he would investigate deeper into the issue and assured that no culprit would be spared. He also mentioned that they would employ necessary measures to make sure that such instances would not occur.
