Lo Presto! The 17 day extravaganza London Olympics 2012 was declared open by  Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Friday in London. Nearly 205 countries are participating in  302 or more events with more than 10,500 athletes expecting to compete. London Olympics 2012 is officially known as The Games of the XXX Olympiad commenced the events. However the first day sports events unfolded much before the the opening ceremony. Principally, Men's archery the first event in the London Olympics 2012 was held at the Lord's Cricket Ground on Friday.

The star of the event was South Korean archer Im Dong-hyun who made an impressive  score of 699/720 in the 72-arrow event  helping South Korea set a team record in the opening round. Im will go down in the history to have set the first record London Olympics 2012. Im is infact blinded with blurred vision, yet he managed to empower the event with his strong sense of color variation. He distinguishes between the bright colors of the target.

South Korea topped the table followed by France and then by China. US which came in as Number one, failed to fire, as expected and finished being fourth in the table. It was dismal performance of the Indian archery contingent, that dampened the Indian fans expectations, initially. Individually, Tarundeep Rai was the best-placed Indian at 31st with 664 points from 72 shots. Banerjee was at 46th with 655 points, followed by Talukdar at 53rd with 650 points. Indians were the last on the table, 12th team.

The league will now have a head-to-head elimination format, in which each team will have four sets of six arrows (two arrows per archer). And of course the team with highest points tally will win the match. (With inputs from internet-AW AarKay)
