International Boxing Match today at Mumbai Mall

An international boxing match is scheduled to be held at a Mumbai mall Friday, as per reports. Inorbit Mall in the Malad area of northwest Mumbai would host the bout as part of a team event under the World Series of Boxing (WSB), an organiser said here Thursday.

Speaking at a conference to announce the Mumbai Fighters' new home, team principal Udit Sheth said they wanted to bring the WSB as close as they could to people. Boxer Akhil Kumar, who is part of the team but is away from action owing to a muscle tear, too felt that the venue would be an absolutely refreshing experience for viewers.

American heavyweight Paul Koon is finally getting an opportunity to display his talent before Indian audience when he steps into the ring against Javier Torres of Los Angeles Matadors in the WSB 2011 fourth round match.

Boxers from Indian team Venky's Mumbai Fighters would battle it out against LA Matadors in their fourth match for the WSB 2011/12 season at the T-Box Mobile Arena of the mall’s parking area, designed by by M-T AG, Switzerland, a mobile sporting arena is built using galvanized steel girders instead of brick-and-mortar. Tickets for the event were available on the website 'bookmyshow.com'.

World Cup Boxing 2008 bronze medalist, Jitender's Friday's fight against the five-time Argentina National bantamweight champion is only his second pro bout.

Match-ups: Bantamweight: Jitender Kumar (VMF) vs Fernando Martinez (LAM). Lightweight: Siddharth Varma (VMF) vs Eric Fowler (LAM). Middleweight: Patrick Gallagher (VMF) vs Russell Lamour (LAM). Light heavy: Marko Cilic (VMF) vs Levan Guledani (LAM). Heavyweight: Paul Koon (VMF) vs Javier Torres (LAM).
