Saikhom Mirabai Chanu scripts history in Tokyo Olympics:- The Tokyo Olympics commenced yesterday and Saikhom Mirabai Chanu scripted history after she emerged as the first India to bag a medal in Tokyo Olympics 2021. Saikhom Mirabai Chanu opened the medals tally of India after she bagged silver medal in Women's 49 kg weightlifting category. Saikhom Mirabai Chanu lifted 202 kg which included 87 kg of snatch and 115 kg in clean and jerk. Zhihui Hou bagged a gold medal by lifting 210 kg and created a new record in Olympics. Indonesia;s Windy Cantika Aisah bagged a bronze medal with 194 kg. She is showered with wishes from all the corners of the country. Indian President Ram Nath Kovind congratulated Saikhom Mirabai Chanu and he poste saying "Heartiest congratulations to Mirabai Chanu for starting the medal tally for India in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 by winning silver medal in weightlifting".

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi too appreciated Saikhom Mirabai Chanu for her work in the Tokyo Olympics. “Could not have asked for a happier start to Tokyo2020! India is elated by Mirabai Chanu’s stupendous performance. Congratulations to her for winning the Silver medal in weightlifting. Her success motivates every Indian" tweeted Narendra Modi. "India's 1st medal on day 1 ! @mirabai_chanu wins SILVER in women's 49kg weightlifting! India is so proud of you Mira !," posted Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on twitter. Olympic medallist wrestler Sakshi Malik and double Commonwealth Games gold medallist lifter Satish Shivalingam praised her. India's lone Olympic gold medallist and former shooter Abhinav Bindra appreciated her.
