Food Corporation of India geared for food security

Being one of the largest food  rice- producing and rice procuring states in the country after Punjab, Food Corporation of India (FCI) gives most importance to ensure food security to the state. FCI would be providing effective minimum price  in support to the farmers as they are the back bones for food security. This was disclosed by the new Executive Director (transport) Dinesh Kumar, a senior IAS officer of the AP cadre while speaking to officials of the department who went to meet him in Delhi, on Monday.

He added that the main objective of the central government’s food policy was to make sure that all efforts to ensure the minimum price support to farmers and proper supply of food grains throughout the country for the public distribution system, was effective. He had also issued special instructions to the concerned take all necessary steps to maintain satisfactory level of operational and buffer stocks of food grains to ensure food security in the state.

As per the latest policy with food security as its primary target, FCI would ensure that the minimum support price for paddy at Rs 1,285 per tonne would be paid to farmers. During the discussions many officers from the state thanked the chief for his remarks and ascertained that the needful would be done. They also wished him good luck on his new endeavor.
