An emotional Gary calls India amazing, incredible

garry-imageSouth African coach Gary Kirsten, who spearheaded the Team India’s victory in the final of the 2011 cricket world cup by his exemplary coaching, became emotional on Tuesday and said he was leaving the amazing country and lovable people with many moments to cherish for a long time to come.

Addressing national media in Mumbai before leaving last night for his native country along with his wife, Gary thanked the Indian people for accepting his family into their fold for the last three years during his stint as coach for the Indian team.

He said he has made many friends in India and a huge part of his heart now remains in this incredible country “I will return many times over to visit this amazing land and its beautiful people and rekindle the many friendships I have made. Know that India will always remain part of my life and future,” he said emotionally.

He said his stint in India was a remarkable journey for him and would remain one of the most cherished experiences of his life. Saying it was a massive privilege for him to be part of the Indian team, the South African coach described captain MS Dhoni as one of the great leaders of India. “It has been an honour to work with him over the last three years and I want to thank him for his support and friendship,” he said.

Talking about Sachin Tendulkar, Gary said that he was the greatest sporting role model he had ever met. “His humility, work ethics and pure love for the game of cricket has been a pleasure to watch.”

Talking about the players, he said the team was a good cohesion and the team members took their representation of their country very seriously. Gary also thanked the BCCI, support staff and everyone connected with the team for their friendship and affection showered on him during his assignment.
