The Supreme Court of India has held that tinted glasses cannot be used for motor vehicles under Motor Vehicles Act. The court, however, said that vehicles of government officials can have tinted glasses keeping in view the security issues.
The Court has directed the state governments to frame guidelines as necessary. The court received a plea asking to ban tint glasses and the bench headed by Chief Justice S. H Kapadia gave these orders Friday. According to the petitioner Avinash Goenka, many of the crimes take place in cars with tinted glasses. The petitioner stated that he had 25 RTI query replies to support his claim. He said that even sexual assaults on women took place in cars with tinted windows that evaded public gaze and concealed the crime & identity.
Cars without tinted glasses are soon going to appear on roads in the wake of the new order. (Phani)
