Changsha hospital in China has become the venue for the doctors, who performed a surgery, where the hand was attached to leg of the patient.  
The hand remained to be attached to the patient’s leg for a month, to give the time to nerves and tendons, heal from trauma.

What happened actually?

Reportedly, Zhou accidentally chopped off his left hand in a spinning blade machine at his work place.

Dr Tang Juyu, head of microsurgery at the hospital, said that they can handle the case as they already did it in the past already. Regarding this, the doctors said that, as the Zhou's arm and severed hand were badly wounded, it is better to allow the nerves and tendons to heal with time.

Why to attach hand to leg?  

So meanwhile they attached the hand to the patient’s right ankle. Explaining the reason behind doing this, Dr.Tang said, “Under normal temperatures, a severed finger needs to resume blood supply within 10 hours, but that time is even shorter for a separated limb, if a limb is short of blood for too long, its tissues die and it will be unsalvageable.”

So for this reason, to keep the hand alive, it is attached to Zhou’s right ankle for a month and then the doctors performed the surgery. The operation is successful and Zhou got his hand back to his wrist.
