Website to be dedicated for the People

The website www.cleancity.co.in promoted by Center for Strategies for Sustainable Habitats (CSSH) and the Forum for Action Research and Policy Analysis (FARPA) is intended to working together with NGOs and civic bodies. It was launched by S. Jaipal Reddy, Union Minister for Urban Development

The Union Ministry of Urban Development will soon issue a direction to the corporations on the working, according to coordinator of the website and member of the National Technical Advisory Group of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) R.V. Rama Rao.

The website launched for use by public here on September 23 has so far received 300 complaints.

Prof. Rama Rao told reporters here on Wednesday that though 300 complaints relating to clearing garbage, streetlights, water supply and road repairs were made by members of public since September 1 when the website was made operational after some modifications and pilot run, the Municipal authorities were insisting on written complaints.

In view of the poor response to e-mails, it was now proposed to send SMSes to civic staff and officials at various levels.
Trial run

After trial run for a week, he would approach the Municipal Commissioner and the corporation more effective functioning of the site.

Websites on civic grievances would soon be launched at Vijayawada, Tirupati and Hyderabad and the national capital region before the Commonwealth Games began.

Prof. Rama Rao said improvements to the website included special pages for media, senior citizens, and people's representatives to display their works and for traffic and phone numbers of civic officials responsible for various services.

Besides, citizens may also put on the site violation of building norms. Prasada Rao from Bheemunipatnam, who wanted to replicate the site for the municipality there, was present.
