Kazakhstan: Helicopter Lands on the Road, Pilot Gets Down to ask DirectionFebruary 17, 2017 15:20
It is common to ask directions when you are travelling. But have you ever seen a helicopter landing on the road instead of helipad?
In an unusual incident, a military helicopter pilot landed on a road in rural Kazakhstan to ask the directions.
The video was shared on YouTube on Thursday shows a truck convoy came across a Mi-8 Gunship helicopter taking four rocket pods on a deserted road in the north-west of the country.
The video was filmed from a mobile phone by the second truck driver. In the video, we can listen to one voice which says"What the f**k is he doing? He is just sitting there in the middle of the road."
Seconds later a man gets down from the helicopter and runs towards the first lorry. He shakes hands with the driver before figuring out the location.
After the brief conversation, the pilot waves thanks and runs back to the £8million helicopter.
With laughter in his voice, the first trucker says on the convoy radio: "They were lost. He came to ask which way to Aktobe."
"How can you get lost in the steppe?" an incredulous trucker replies as the helicopter lifts off. "How the hell can you get lost in the steppe?"
Following the incident, the Kazakhstan Ministry of Defense was flooded with queries. A statement was released to the local media, saying that "the helicopter was taking part in a planned visual orienteering exercise, in which trainee pilots were required to determine their location using methods that included by means of the human survey."
Reportedly, the exercise was a "success", and the helicopter has since returned to its base airfield.
