Pakistani girl hanged for helping lovers

According to the police, a Pakistan teenage girl was hanged, for helping a female friend to elope.

Amber, a 16 year old girl of Makol village, has reportedly helped her friend Asma to escape with her lover to marry.

Reacting to the issue, Abbottabad district police officer, Khurram Rashid said, “They decided that to stop 'love marriages' in the area, and so the helper girl was  punished to set an example for other girls. This is the first ever crime like this in Makol.”

Amber's charred remains were found on the van’s seat, set ablaze outside the village, last Friday.

After the issue went viral, the police who arrested almost all the 15 members in Jirga or village council, including Asma's father, Safdar, promised to take strict action against them.

In 2013, after Supreme Court ruling, Jirgas do not hold legal power in Pakistan.

The girl’s body was doused in petrol and set ablaze in an attempt to hide the killing from police.

Police said, Sardar Pervaz, the ‘notorious’ leader, led the act. He reportedly sent Jirga member Sardar Saeed to Amber’s home, who told the girl’s mother to handover her daughter or face her entire family being burnt alive in their home.

Left with no choice, Amber’s mother Shamim Raisat sent the girl with Saeed, who then dragged Amber to another home, and drugged and hanged there.

Police initially arrested Shamim Raisat, for failing to report the crime, but later said she had been under duress and scared of losing her remaining family members. The suspects will be tried in an anti-terror court.
