Air India flight saves a life

An Air India flight landed in Madhurai, to pick up a heart and deliver it in Chennai for the transplantation

The 48 year old person from Pune is suffering from cardiomyopathy, a heart muscle disease. His condition was getting critical from the past three weeks. But on Thursday, the family members of the patient came to know about 29-year-old Damodaran, who became brain dead after he met with a road accident in Dindigul district, upon knowing that, the family members of Damodaran, has decided to donate the organs to those who are in need of them. 
  
But, due to some unknown reasons, the Madhurai-Chennai flight, which is supposed to pick up Damodaran’s Heart unexpectedly got delayed, which put the family members of the patient in deep sorrow. But, immediately, a Kochi- Chennai took an emergency landing in Madhurai and picked up the heart to Chennai.

With the heart, the operation was done successfully and the patients family members thanked the airport authorities for the support.

KM Cherian, chairman and CEO of Frontier Lifeline Hospital, told The media: ‘When the heart became available, we flew to Madurai on a morning flight, harvested the organ and brought it back late afternoon.

Officials said the man’s kidneys were transplanted into two patients in Madurai and his liver was also sent to a hospital in Chennai.

For saving a life, the way, airport authorities reacted to the situation instantly, is appreciable. In fact, from the past months, there are a few of the similar incidents which took place around the country.
