Tirupati MLA Mr Chiranjeevi today resigned from the assembly following his election to the Rajya Sabha.

Chiranjeevi met Speaker Nadendla Manohar in the assembly and handed over his resignation. Following the resignation, by-poll will be held for the seat along with 17 other assembly seats which have fallen vacant.

The Election Commission has already indicated that by polls in the state would be held in May well in advance of the Presidential election in June. (J)
