CBI gets 2-day custody of Acharya

The special CBI court today sent the senior IAS officer Mr BP Acharya to 2-day CBI custody when he was produced before it today.

Special judge Nagamaruthi Sarma ordered the CBI to produce him before the court by 4 PM on Feb 1. The court sent the IAS officer to CBI custody after the investigating agency said he should be further interrogated to get details on his involvement in the APIIC-Emaar land scam.

The CBI earlier arrested the Principal Secretary in the Home Department for his involvement in the APIIC-Emaar land scam.

The special court extended the judicial remand of Sunil Reddy by two days but refused him for further CBI custody. The CBI custody of Sunil Reddy, an accused in the Emaar scam, ended today and the CBI sought extension. The court refused the request.

CBI’s request seeking the custody of Vijayaraghavan, former CEO of the Emaar properties, was also refused by the special court. Mr Raghavan alleged in the court that the CBI has been using third degree methods on him for extracting information. The CBI counsel however denied the charge. (JUBS)
