CBI defers Sri Lakshmi bail plea

The Central bureau of Investigation which is investigating the OBC Mining case has filed a counter requesting the court not to issue bail to the suspended IAS officer Sri Lakshmi.  The CBI council filed the counter on Friday at the CBI special court in Nampally. It may be noted the officer had filed a bail application after completion of her sixty days after arrest. The officer’s counsel felt that the CBI had not so far filed a charge sheet, so she was eligible for bail under Clause 2 of Section 167 of Cr PC. The hearing scheduled for today by the court is worth watching whether the CBI would be obliged on the issue.

The illegal mining case had taken Sri Lakshmi in custody for her alleged aiding the incarcerated former Karnataka Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy, who is the prime accused in the illegal mining case. The delay on the CBI’s side much depended on prosecution orders awaited from the centre. Earlier the CBI had sought the centre’s permission to prosecute Sri Lakshmi and the centre is yet to shed light on the issue. This has given the opportunity to the officer to apply for bail, on the delay grounds.

The most speculative OBC mining case had earned the CBI enough wraths from the officers and the general public for the delay. But their war footing exercise is delayed by political crisis. (With inputs from internet- AarKay)
