The Telangana Joint Action Committee has decided to mark December 09 as the Telangana Atma Gauravam Dhinam (Self Esteemed day.) As today way back in 2009, the Home Minister P Chidambaram announced the consent for Telangana formation, which till date remained in square number one only, inspite of strong agitation from Telangana patronisers and Unified Andhra supporters. The Telangana supporters want a separate state to be carved out of the Andhra Pradesh.

The T-JAC announced various programs across the Telangana region for the day. At Hyderabad the T-JAC shall hoist the Telangana flag in Gun Park. In the evening at Indira Park around 5 pm T-JAC plans a Telangana Jagruthi event which shall stretch till mid night.

“Bill to carve out new Telangana soon”

In the face of aggravating agitation, to control the law and order problem in the Telangana region, the Union government finally gave in to the demand of the people of Telangana. The Home Minister P Chidambaram came out with an announcement from the meeting of core ministers like Prime Minister Sri Manmohan Singh, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Chidambaram himself, Defense Minister A. K. Antony, on the night 9th December 2009. The speech of Chidambaram transcripted as follows:

“The process of forming the state of Telangana will be initiated. An appropriate resolution will be moved in the state assembly.”

“We have requested the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (K. Rosaiah), to withdraw the cases filed on or after November 29 2009 against all the leaders, students and others associated with the present agitation. The chief minister has informed us that he will take the necessary steps in this regard. We also appeal to all concerned especially the students to withdraw their agitations and help restore normalcy.”
