Indonesia rocked by earthquake

An earthquake of a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter scale shook parts of the Molucca islands in eastern Indonesia Monday morning.

Fortunately, there are no reports of loss of life or property, according to officials.The quake occurred at 09. 35 hrs IST and the epicenter of the quake was traced to 69 km south-west of Labuha city at a depth of 10 km, according to a statement given by the Meteorology, Geophysics and Climatology Agency in Jakarta.

The authorities have however not issued any tsunami alert. Indonesia is frequently rocked by earthquakes as the country sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a zone known for frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
