28 persons took ill after they consumed adulterated prasadam during the Ganesh immersion ceremony at Rajampet in Biknur mandalam of Nizamabad district this morning.

Villagers said that the affected people started vomiting and suffered from motions immediately after consuming lemon rice (pulihora) at the immersion programme. They were immediately hospitalized, witnesses said.

“The prasadam must have got adulterated somewhere,” one of the organizers of the festival said. Police and civil officials took them to hospitals.
